The Times Higher Education Supplement World University Rankings have been published each year since 2004, with a new methodology introduced in 2007.

Academic Ranking of World Universities, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, 2007

> No. 7 Asia-Pacific region
> No. 79 worldwide

The Academic Ranking of World Universities, produced by China's Shanghai Jiao Tong University, has ranked the University of Melbourne among the top 100 research institutes worldwide for the fifth year in a row. Two Australian universities were ranked in the top 100.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University 's rankings use several rigorous indicators of academic and research performance, and measure a range of factors including alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes, highly-cited researchers, articles in Science and Nature and citations indexes, and academic performance in relation to the size of the university.
