Entry requirements: Graduate Research Degrees

Applicants for a graduate research degree (also known as a research higher degree) are normally required to have completed at least a four-year Australian honours degree or equivalent and achieved an overall average of greater than 75% in the relevant degree. Please note that these are minimum requirements; you should check with your prospective Faculty or Graduate School to determine the entry requirements that apply to the degree you wish to undertake.

  • You are normally required to have completed a research project/component that accounts for at least 25% of your year's work at 4th year undergraduate or masters, level. Your knowledge of the discipline in which you plan to undertake your graduate research degree must be current. It is therefore expected that you will have completed your tertiary studies and/or any relevant professional experience in the 10 years immediately prior to your intended entry to the course.
  • Based on an interview or other communication, an assessment will be made of the level of understanding, motivation and time commitment of the graduate researcher for the proposed program of study. For example, a full-time researcher would be expected to devote at least 40 hours per week.
  • All applicants must meet the English language requirements of the University to be offered a place.
