How to apply
Students interested in undergraduate study at the University of Melbourne apply through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC).
Applications are made online with students able to list up to 12 courses in order of preference. Timely VTAC applications close in September in the year prior to enrolment.
Special entry
To increase participation of students from diverse backgrounds, the University has implemented Access Melbourne, a combined special entry and access scholarships scheme.
Access Melbourne enhances opportunities for selection for students whose preparation for University has been hindered by ongoing and difficult circumstances.
University selection committees consider each Access Melbourne application individually. They take into consideration the circumstances that affected the applicant’s chances of entry and their potential to succeed in a University course.
Applicants must complete the relevant sections of VTAC’s Special Entry Access Schemes (SEAS) online application available on the VTAC website.

Scholarships
The Melbourne Undergraduate Scholarships program is one of the most generous and comprehensive in Australia. It recognises the outstanding academic achievements of students from both Victoria and interstate.
The Scholarships program, which already incorporates the prestigious Melbourne National Scholarships and several hundred Access Scholarships, will be expanded even further under the University’s landmark educational reforms known as the ‘Melbourne Model’.
Application for Melbourne National Scholarships is made online. Application for Melbourne Access Scholarships is made through VTAC using the Special Entry Access Schemes (SEAS) form. Further information on scholarship benefits and application procedures is available through the Melbourne Scholarships Office.
Enrolment options
The University offers a range of enrolment options with students nominating the type of place they are interested in via course codes on their VTAC application.
Australian students can choose from two options:
- A Commonwealth supported place (CSP): An enrolment which is subsidised by the Commonwealth Government. A student enrolled in a Commonwealth supported place contributes to the tuition fee for their course by paying the relevant HECS contribution.
- An Australian fee place: An enrolment which is not subsidised by the Commonwealth Government, deeming the student responsible for the full cost of their tuition. Australian fee places are offered in addition to Commonwealth supported places and enable the University to offer more places to students for their tertiary education.
