The ARWU is collated by Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China. It ranks 1000 higher education institutions according to a range of criteria, including: staff and alumni winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals; highly cited researchers; articles published in Nature and Science and science citation indices; and academic performance in relation to the number of academic staff.

Rankings for the city of Melbourne
