The Melbourne Graduate Experience
Graduate to the new standard
We are introducing a new 'graduate experience' to Australia. As a key part of the Melbourne Model the Graduate Schools aim to attract the best and brightest students from a variety of backgrounds and offer a range of focused and intense courses to prepare them for professional careers. Students benefit from being part of a graduate community ? studying in the same course at the same time with students who all have the same goals.
With over 340 professional development programs and a suite of new professional entry programs available, the choice and range of courses is extensive. Graduate certificates, graduate diplomas, masters by coursework and research programs are available.
Connecting with the world
The Melbourne Model is a distinctly Australian response to the European (three-year bachelors degree followed by a two-year masters or a three-year doctorate) and North American undergraduate 'liberal education' and similar higher education changes in the Asian region.
Graduate course design provides stronger connections with community and industry for a truly professionally relevant education. Students experience opportunities to study overseas and are supported to develop strong intercultural communication skills and a cross-cultural frame of reference; an internationally recognised graduate education with internationally transportable qualifications.
The University has worked closely with employers to develop curricula that will provide transferable, high-level skills which enable graduates to keep pace with an environment in which knowledge is rapidly renewed and knowledge boundaries are increasingly permeable.
International Partnerships and Exchange
The University of Melbourne views internationalisation as an essential part of its continued growth and development. Collaboration with other top universities around the world through membership of Universitas 21, the Association of Pacific Rim Universities and partnerships in research and exchange means that your experience at the University of Melbourne will be a global one.
You may be eligible to further expand your international experience by completing part of your course at one of many partner institutions around the world. Dedicated staff in your Faculty as well as the Melbourne Global Mobility Office will assist you to study subjects not offered at the University of Melbourne, to undertake part of your research overseas, develop contacts all over the world and spend time living in another country. It will also give you a competitive edge in the workplace as employers look for people with initiative and broad experience at some of the world's most prestigious institutions.
World class facilities
Developing strong peer networks is an important aspect of graduate education, and our new Student Centres have been designed to meet the particular needs of each discipline area, providing a warm and welcoming space and a one-stop-shop for ready access to information and services. A comprehensive range of academic enrichment services will be accessible through the Centres, including specially tailored communication skills programs and career advice.
