Graduate research scholarships
A generous range of scholarships is available to support local and international graduate research students. Scholarships are offered through the Melbourne Scholarships Program, industry and government programs, and by individual faculties and departments.
- in 2008 the Melbourne Scholarships Program offered 620 new graduate research scholarships.
- Over 200 travelling scholarships were available to support enrolled students seeking periods of study and research overseas.
- Scholarships provide either a living allowance or a fee remission (international students).
- Living allowance scholarships were valued at around A$20,000 in 2008. Typically, they offer provision for relocation, sick leave, maternity leave and parenting leave.
- A competitive scholarship application normally requires results equivalent to an H1 (80%) at the University of Melbourne.

Local student scholarships
For 2008 the following new scholarships were available for local students:
-- 315 living allowance scholarships
-- 36 industry sponsored living allowance scholarships
-- 10 equity scholarships
-- 10 'prestigious' and major scholarships, some supplementing existing scholarship awards.
International student scholarships
In 2008, over 250 international students received support from the Melbourne Scholarships Program. Over 90% of these students were offered both fee-remission and living allowance scholarships.
