~ Calculating the Grade Point Average: MVG = 20; VG =15; G =10; IG =0
1) The number value for each grade is multiplied by the number of points for the subject. Eg a subject worth 100 points with a grade of VG = 100 x 15.
2) Total the scores and you will receive a score between 20000-50000.
3) The total score is divided by the sum of the points and you will have calculated the GPA (a score out of 20).

Graduate coursework study
Those interested in applying for graduate studies should refer to Course Search and/or contact the relevant graduate school for course entry requirements. All applicants must also meet the English language requirements of the University to be eligible to be offered a place.
Graduate research study
Applicants for a research degree are normally required to have completed at least a four-year honours degree or equivalent and achieved an overall average of greater than 75% in the relevant degree. Particular disciplines have separate requirements and applicants for some professional degrees will be assessed individually.
Applicants are normally required to have completed a research project/component that accounts for at least 25% of their year's work at 4th year or at masters level. The applicant's knowledge of the discipline in which they plan to undertake their research higher degree must be current. It is therefore expected that an applicant will have completed their tertiary studies and/or any relevant professional experience in the 10 years immediately prior to their intended entry to the PhD.
Based on interview or other communication, an assessment will be made of the level of understanding, motivation and time commitment of the student for the proposed program of study. For example, a full-time student would be expected to devote at least 40 hours a week and a part-time student about half of this.
All applicants must also meet the English language requirements of the University to be offered a place.
For more information, see the minimum entry requirements for a PhD at the Melbourne School of Graduate Research.
