Concurrent diploma applications

Diploma in Music

We aim to email application outcomes for complete applications within five working days. The following application deadlines apply:

  • For commencement of the Diploma in Semester 1 2017 applications must be complete* by Friday 10 February 2017.
  • For commencement of the Diploma in Semester 2 2017 applications must be complete* by Friday 7 July 2017 (note that applications from students commencing the University are not accepted at mid-year)

Applicants who wish to study Practical Music subjects will be required to audition.

What is a ‘complete’ application?

  • online application has been submitted
  • you have attended a course planning appointment to finalise your course plan
  • your course plan has been uploaded with your application

Diploma in Languages

We aim to email application outcomes for complete applications within five working days. The following application deadlines apply:

  • For commencement of the Diploma in the 2017 Summer Term applications must be complete* by Friday 2 December 2016.
  • For commencement of the Diploma in Semester 1 2017 applications must be complete* by Friday 10 February 2017.
  • For commencement of the Diploma in Semester 2 2017 applications must be complete* by Friday 7 July 2017 (note that applications from students commencing the University are not accepted at mid-year)

What is a ‘complete’ application?

  • online application has been submitted
  • you have attended a course planning appointment to finalise your course plan
  • your course plan has been uploaded with your application
  • you have specified in your application which language you wish to study
  • if relevant you have uploaded your result from the Language Placement Test with your application

Diploma in Informatics and Diploma in Mathematical Sciences

Application outcomes will be made in rounds:

December round

Who should use

Currently enrolled students intending to commence the Diploma in the Summer Semester must use this selection round. This selection round may also be used by currently enrolled students intending to commence the Diploma in Semester 1 2017.

Applications must be complete* by: Friday 2 December 2016

Application outcome will be emailed to you by: Wednesday 21 December 2016

February Round

Who should use

Currently enrolled students intending to commence the Diploma in Semester 1 2017 who missed the December Round. Commencing students who wish to commence the Diploma in Semester 1 2017.

Applications must be complete* by: Friday 10 February 2017

Application outcome will be emailed to you by: Wednesday 22 February 2017

July Round

Who should use

Currently enrolled students intending to commence the Diploma in Semester 2 2017. (Applications from commencing students are not accepted at mid-year.)

Applications must be complete* by: Friday 7 July 2017

Application outcome will be emailed to you by: Wednesday 19 July 2017

What is a ‘complete’ application?

  • online application has been submitted
  • you have attended a course planning appointment to finalise your course plan
  • your course plan has been uploaded with your application

Community Access Program applications (non-award study)

We aim to email application outcomes for complete applications within ten working days. Please note that this timing does not apply to quota decisions as these decisions are usually made in selection rounds rather than on a rolling basis.

What does a “completed application” look like?

  1. The details of the subjects you’ve applied for are accurate and the subject is available.
  2. If the subject has prerequisites you have supplied the necessary documentation to show you have satisfied them (depending on the prerequisite this may be in the form of results for secondary studies, academic transcripts for tertiary studies and/or details of work experience).
  3. If you are currently enrolled in a University of Melbourne degree you have provided evidence of the approval of your home faculty to enrol in the subject(s) applied for.
  4. If you are eligible for a tuition fee discount you have provided the required evidence.
  5. If you are seeking to enrol in the subject as a bridging program for overseas-trained professionals you have uploaded a copy of your assessment statement.
  6. If you are seeking enrol in this subject as enabling study you have provided the information requested.

Cross-institutional study (incoming) applications (non-award study)

Applications for 2017 intakes will open once the 2017 University Handbook is released (expected mid-October).

We aim to email application outcomes for complete applications within ten working days. Please note that this timing does not apply to quota decisions as these decisions are usually made in selection rounds rather than on a rolling basis.

Extension Program applications

Applicants who have submitted a complete* application by 5.00 pm on 15 December 2016 will receive the application outcome by 5.00 pm 18 January 2017 (this will allow you to attend the Extension Program Welcome Day on 20 January).

Applications completed* after 15 December will receive the application outcome by 5.00 pm on 27 January 2017.


* A ‘complete’ application is a properly submitted application with all the required answers provided and documents uploaded:

  • Parent/guardian permission form
  • Teacher recommendation and principal approval form
  • Complete copies of your Year 11 school reports (both semester 1 and semester 2), including details of all VCE Unit 1/2 results, or Year 11 IB results, plus a grading scale key
  • A copy of your official ‘Statement of results’ for any VCE Unit 3/4 subjects that you have completed in Year 11 or earlier (if applicable)
  • A copy of your VASS ‘Full Details Report’
