The student experience

Student services and support

Students enrolled in single subject study/CAP can access the following services and support:

  • University libraries, including borrowing rights, free library tours and classes, and information sessions for new students
  • The University's Careers and Employment, Disability Liaison, Academic Skills, Health and Counselling, Student Housing and Financial Aid services
  • Access to 'my.unimelb', the University's student portal, including an official University email account
  • A wide range of cultural and extracurricular activities organised by the Student Union
  • Access to subject outlines, lecture recordings and other learning resources including online material through the Learning Management System (LMS).

Talk to your faculty or graduate school about access to these services for single subject study/CAP students.

Paying tuition fees

Please note that once your single subject/CAP enrolment has been confirmed, you will be liable to pay tuition fees unless you officially withdraw from your subject(s) prior to the subject census date.

Students who have previously studied at the University of Melbourne must pay any outstanding debts, e.g. library fines or student loan fees before they can confirm their enrolment.

Maintaining your enrolment record

You are responsible for maintaining your enrolment. This includes finalising your enrolment into your subject(s) online, paying your tuition fees or withdrawing from your subject(s) by the required deadlines.

You are also responsible for checking your University email account on at least a weekly basis and notifying your faculty or graduate school of any concerns or problems you may have.

Please note that single subject/CAP students are ineligible for a leave of absence – if you wish to take a break from your studies you will need to reapply for single subject studies/CAP when you are ready to resume studying.

Withdrawing, applying for special consideration and refunds

You are eligible for a full refund of the tuition fees you have paid if you discontinue your single subject/CAP enrolment on or before the census date. You will not be eligible for a refund for any subject where the census date has already passed. Similarly, you will remain liable for any unpaid fees.

  • Each subject has its own census date. View the census date for your subject.

If you find you are having difficulties with your studies, talk to your tutors and/or lecturers. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible to apply for 'Special Consideration'.

Obtaining your single subject study/CAP results

Students who have completed an assessed mode subject through single subject study/CAP can check their results at the end of each semester via 'my.unimelb' (the student portal). You will be sent one free academic transcript after the end of semester. Please advise your faculty or graduate school if you do not receive your free transcript one month after the release of results. You should make sure that the University has your correct mailing address by checking your 'Personal Details' on 'my.unimelb'.
