Alternative single subject programs

Alternative single subject programs

The Community Access Program (CAP) is a great way to study at the University, but there are also other options if enrolling in a single subject through CAP won’t meet your learning needs:

  • Bridging program for overseas-trained professionals
  • Enabling study
  • Other opportunities

Bridging program for overseas-trained professionals

If you are an overseas-trained professional and need to undertake some study in order to meet the entry requirements to practise your profession in Australia, you may be eligible to enrol in a bridging program.

  • Students who hold an Assessment Statement and are undertaking approved bridging study for overseas-trained professionals may be eligible for FEE-HELP. For details refer to the Federal Government's Study Assist website.

Enabling study

Eligibility for enabling study

A subject taken in assessed mode through the Community Access Program may be deemed enabling if it is being taken to qualify for initial entry to a University of Melbourne degree course. Note that undertaking the subject as enabling does not guarantee entry into a degree course.

In order to be considered for Enabling study, you must clearly indicate in your Community Access Program (CAP) application that you are seeking an Enabling offer - in the section “Purpose for Study”.

If seeking entry into an undergraduate degree you may be eligible for enabling study if either of the following applies:

  • A subject taken to satisfy course prerequisites (and/or the English language requirement) as specified
  • Subjects taken to demonstrate likelihood to succeed through the Non-school leaver entry

If seeking entry into a graduate degree you may be eligible for enabling study if one of the following  applies:

  1. You have included a conditional offer, in your CAP application, that clearly states you need to complete a specific single subject in order to qualify for entry into an award course.
  2. You provide a link to a website, in your CAP application, that clearly identifies the single subject you are applying for is a pre-requisite for an award course.
  3. You have included an official letter or email, in your CAP application, from the faculty or graduate school that clearly states the single subject/s you are applying for is a pre-requisite for an award course.
