Global partnerships and opportunities

The University is a member of the Group of Eight (Go8) - a coalition of leading Australian universities - and views international collaboration as an essential part of its continued growth and development.

The University frequently hosts visitors from partner institutions and from diplomatic posts. Academic staff from other countries regularly visit and lecture at the University, there are lots of cultural exchange programs and joint research projects. Other recent visitors have included the Malaysian Director-General of Higher Education, the Ambassador for Nepal, and the High Commissioner for India.

International collaboration

The University's bilateral agreements with international institutions are extensive and span 35 countries. Our collaboration with other top universities around the world through membership of Universitas 21, the Association of Pacific Rim Universities, and our partnerships in research and exchange means that your experience at the University of Melbourne will be a global one.

These agreements enable visits by academic staff, cultural exchange, joint research and opportunities for you through Study Abroad and Exchange.

Industry partnerships

The University has strong research and partnership links with professional bodies, industry and government. We are able to provide opportunities for internships, work placements and industry-based learning. Senior industry representatives are also integral to our curriculum development ensuring your degree is relevant in today's professional environment.

Examples of industry/research partnerships include the Specific-Initiative Partnership with KPMG around Carbon Reduction and the IBM Multi-Initiative Partnership which is working on the development of:

  • IBM Services, Science, Management & Engineering (SSME) Initiative
  • IBM Industry Internships and IBM Student Research Award
